Wachholz, Grant to Miss Remainder of Season

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State volleyball right side hitter Lilly Wachholz will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an injury early in the match against Iowa last Tuesday.

"Lilly's injury is heartbreaking, she has worked so hard over her career to become one of our best players and leaders," Christy Johnson-Lynch said. "She has handled the past several days with so much toughness and grace. Even from the sidelines she continues to provide inspiration and leadership to this group. She is still very much a part of our team and we hope and pray for a speedy recovery."

"This is not how I imagined my season going, but I am incredibly grateful for every opportunity and experience that I have been given at Iowa State," Wachholz said. "I would not have been able to get through this without the constant and dedicated support of my teammates, coaches, doctors, athletic trainers, support staff, family, friends and incredible fans at Iowa State. Although this has been a difficult time, I know God continues to give me the strength and faith to get through this. I am so thankful to be surrounded by such an amazing team and an incredible community that has supported me every moment of this unexpected journey."

Wachholz had a strong start to her senior season averaging 2.74 kills per set at an efficiency of .324. Wachholz led the Cyclones with a season-high 18 kills at a clip of .484 in the win vs. Utah State and totaled 52 kills and 15 blocks in six matches.

In addition, Annalise Grant underwent a season-ending knee surgery last Tuesday to repair a previous injury. Last season as a freshman, Grant played in 19 matches as a defensive specialist and totaled 57 digs and 10 assists.
