The Iowa State Cheerleading Team is excited for you to join our recruitment process! If you are wanting to be considered for our upcoming 2026-2027 team or would like to be considered in the future, please see the information below and follow the 4 easy steps!

RECRUITING PROCESS FOR: High School Seniors & College Transfers

1. SEND in Recruitment Application. *Please make sure your video is ready to be uploaded at this time.*

2. ATTEND our clinics and recruiting events offered throughout the year. The more exposure and communication you have with the program and coaches, the better! *REQUIRED*

3. PLAN your Official Campus Tour

4. APPLY to Iowa State University *If you haven't received your acceptance yet, you can still send in your Recruitment Application*

Recruitment Timeline

Official Recruitment Video Submissions opens: September 1st, 2025
Video Submissions Accepted until: January 1st, 2026
Evaluation & Interview Period: January - March *team practice offer, INVITE ONLY*
Cheer Team Committed Offer Letter: April 2026 *still REQUIRED to attend Tryouts for the 2026-2027 season*

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS

Please follow the outline below to format your tryout video. Your video must be taken together and must include all 3 components (1-3), for consideration. We suggest using a public YouTube link for submission.

What to wear in video:

Ladies - Hair half up, with white bow. Black shorts/spandex with black tank top/sports top

Guys - Black shorts and black shorts

1. Introduction - please include all components

Personal portrait
Your name
Your current high school or college
Please answer the following question: What interests you about the Iowa State cheerleading program?

2. Stunting Section - please include all components of the specific team

Coed

Required Stunts:

Toss hands or extension
Toss lib or awesome
2 additional ELITE stunts (inverted) of your choice with a flipping dismount

All Girl

Required Stunts:

Full Up Lib to Heel Stretch
Back Handspring Up
2 additional ELITE stunts (inverted) of your choice with a flipping dismount

3. Tumbling Section - please include all components of each section (ALL Tumbling must be shown on dead mat WITHOUT any spotting or assisted tumbling equipment)

Jumps

Three jump sequence
Toe touch tuck or full

Standing & Standing Sequence Tumbling

5 Standing tucks or fulls - done consecutively
Standing two back handsprings to layout or full

Running Tumbling

Round off backhand spring layout or full
Specialty pass - must include a punch front, whip, or Arabian ending in a layout or full

RECRUITMENT PROCESS FOR: 8th Grade - High School Juniors

1. FILL OUT our interest form if you are highly considering our program for the future. Making your interest known early on with the coaching staff gives you more opportunities to be prepared for your college cheerleading experience. Aside from filling out our interest form, please join us at our clinics. We strongly encourage you to get as many college cheerleading experiences as you can!
