Eric Harasyn is in his sixth year as the director of operations for Iowa State track and field and cross country in 2018-19. Harasyn takes on responsibilities such as scheduling, team travel logistics, host event management and managing communication between the track and field staff and other athletics offices.
Harasyn has played a crucial role in Iowa State’s running of the ISU Classic and the Big 12 Indoor Championships the past five years and Big 12 Outdoor Championships in 2015. His work has helped make the ISU Classic one of the top indoor meets for both fans and athletes in the country. The overall atmosphere of the Lied Recreation Athletic Center on meet day has been amplified under Harasyn’s watch, developing a much more professional and fan-friendly environment.
Harasyn also saw involvement with the men's distance runners, helping mentor the squad in both the cross country and track seasons. In the past two seasons, he helped Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Martin Smith in the ISU men’s cross country team making its first NCAA Championships since 2009.
Harasyn comes to Iowa State after previously serving as the graduate assistant under head coach Martin Smith at Oklahoma, where he took on daily tasks in the office, aided in race day operations and also gained hands-on coaching experience.
Prior to joining the ISU staff, Harasyn ran on the professional circuit as a sub-4 minute miler. One of his top post-collegiate performances came in the 1,500m, where he clocked a time of 3:39.77 at the 2013 Oxy High Performance Meet.
Harasyn is no stranger to Smith’s coaching scheme. Prior to serving as a graduate assistant, Harasyn ran under Smith from 2010-12 as one of the team’s top middle-distance runners. The Sierra Vista, Arizona, native was a sub-4 minute miler for the Sooners, running as fast as 3:58.99 in the event and picking up second-team All-America accolades in 2012. Harasyn was a member of the 2010 Big-12 championship squad and added a Big 12 title in the 1000-meter run in 2012. On the course, He also ran as a part of Oklahoma’s sixth-place team at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Harasyn was also a two-time NJCAA All-American at Paradise Valley Community College.
