Freddie Walker is in his third season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Cyclone football program.
Walker was a key part of Iowa State's enormous success the last two seasons. Iowa State finished the regular season in first place in the Big 12 standings, made the Big 12 Championship game and qualified for a New Year’s Six bowl for the first time in school history in 2020.
The Cyclones capped off the season with a 34-17 win over Oregon in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.Â
ISU’s eight conference wins and nine overall wins eclipsed or tied school records, and the Cyclones earned their highest ranking in school history during the season (#6) and postseason (#9).
In 2021, ISU earned its school-record fifth-straight bowl berth with an invitation to the Cheez-It Bowl.Â
Walker worked five seasons (2015-19) as a member of the Pittsburgh strength and conditioning staff prior to his arrival in Ames. Walker, who was elevated to associate strength and conditioning coach in 2016, played a lead role in the physical development of the Panthers.
Walker was on the strength staff at Illinois from 2012-14 and was promoted to an associate coaching role in his final season in Champaign.
A native of Lansing, Mich., Walker was a graduate assistant strength coach at Michigan State in 2010-11, helping the Spartans win the Big Ten title in 2010.
Walker was a defensive back at Bowling Green, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2009. He received his master’s degree from Michigan State in 2012.
Walker is married to the former Susie Jean.
