Will Palmer is entering his second season as an assistant coach for the Iowa State. Palmer previously worked under head coach Martin Smith at Oklahoma and focuses primarily on Cyclone distance runners.
In his first season with the program, Palmer played a key role in developing and improving the fitness levels of the Cyclone student-athletes. He was instrumental in his role of keeping the runners healthy and on the track in 2013-14. In his work with the women’s distance runners, Palmer helped lead the squad to notching 22 places on the program’s all-time top-10 lists.
At Oklahoma, Palmer served as the director of operations where he was responsible for team travel logistics, home meet management, managing communication between the track and field staff and other athletics offices for the Sooners.
Before his time in Norman, Okla., Palmer interned with the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Palmer also worked with Robert Chapman at a coaching internship with Team Indiana Elite, where he oversaw daily workouts in preparation for the World Indoor Championships.
Palmer was a member of the men's cross country and track & field teams at Williams College, where he focused on the 1500m and 3000m steeplechase. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2011.
