Matt Shoultz is in his 21st year at Iowa State and his fourth serving as Assistant Athletics Director for communications. In his current role, he serves as the primary contact for the Iowa State football and tennis teams, while also overseeing the communications department.
A Litchfield, Minnesota native, Shoultz has worked with seven Cyclone teams, including men’s basketball, women’s basketball, volleyball, softball and swimming and diving in addition to his current position with football and tennis.
The teams he’s worked with at Iowa State have qualified for 16 NCAA Tournaments, two bowl games and the men’s basketball program won four Big 12 Championship titles during his tenure. Seven times his teams have reached the Sweet 16 or better in their championships. Most recently, the Cyclone tennis program advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships.
The 2024 Cyclone football team reached the school's second Big 12 Championship game and won the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
Shoultz has served as media coordinator for the first and second rounds of the 2009 NCAA Volleyball Tournament and the first three rounds of the 2023 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships played in Ames, Iowa.
The 2005 graduate of the University of South Carolina helped promote Georges Niang’s All-America 2015-16 season which culminated with him earning the Karl Malone Award, given annually to the nation’s top power forward. In total, Shoultz has worked with 11 players that reached the NBA and eight players that were selected in the NFL Draft.
He was recognized in 2008 and 2009 by Collegiate Volleyball Update for his efforts promoting the Cyclone Volleyball Team. He was also the 2009 recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Division I Central Region Grant Burger Media Award.
Shoultz joined the Iowa State Athletics Department staff in 2005 following a one-year stint as a Sports Information Intern at the College of Charleston. At Charleston, Shoultz worked with NCAA Tournament qualifying teams in volleyball, baseball and softball.
He resides in Ames with his wife Lindsie and daughters Emma and Maggie.
