Matt Tennyson was hired as Iowa State's Soccer Development Coach on March 9.
Tennyson is no stranger to the state of Iowa, as he arrived in Ames after spending the previous two years with the Drake soccer program. Tennyson also played collegiately at Buena Vista and served as an assistant coach for two seasons (2019-20) with his alma mater. He additionally spent the 2022 season at Coe, serving as both an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Between his stops at Drake (2024-25) and Coe (2022), Tennyson spent the 2023 season as the Director of Player Performance at Xavier. He also had a stint coaching at Lake Forest College (2021), where he was both the goalkeeper coach and recruiting coordinator.
During his playing career for the Beavers (2013-16), Tennyson was a team captain and an Honorable Mention All-Iowa Conference selection as a senior. He compiled 147 career saves, including 68 during his senior year.
Tennyson has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Buena Vista. He holds a United Soccer Coaches National Diploma and USC GK Level 1 Diploma as well as a USSF D-License.
