Tracy Grose, a 10-year collegiate coaching veteran and a member of the 2002 WUSA champion Carolina Courage, is in her third year as an assistant soccer coach at Iowa State.
A 1998 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America honoree at Indiana University, Grose came to Iowa State after coaching stops at Northern Arizona University (May 2001-June 2008) and Indiana University (Jan. 2000-Nov. 2000).
In her two seasons at Iowa State, Grose has helped the Cyclones improve their wins overall and in Big 12 Conference play. Grose also helped Iowa State land its 2010 freshman class that went on to have the team’s top five point producers, score all of the Cyclones’ goals in Big 12 Conference play and had 10 members crack the starting lineup.
In her first season at Iowa State, Grose helped ISU get off to its fastest start in program history, as the Cyclones wend undefeated in their first seven matches. Grose also played a part in Iowa State defeating NCAA-Championship-bound Oklahoma State, downing Texas for the second time in program history and earning a victory over nationally-ranked DePaul.
During her seven-year tenure at Northern Arizona Grose played a key role in the development of two-time Big Sky Offensive Most Valuable Player Sierra Cristiano, the first player in the league’s history to win consecutive MVP honors. Additionally, Cristiano was the first player in Northern Arizona history to earn NSCAA All-West Region and NSCAA All-Scholar team honors. Grose also tutored Big Sky Newcomer of the Year Jesyca Rosholt, who scored a Big Sky-best seven goals to go along with three assists in her inaugural campaign. The Lumberjacks were selected for the NSCAA Team Academic Award in two of Grose’s seasons on the sidelines. Grose recruited and coached Cee Cee Odorfer, who closed out her career in 2008 with the school’s career-high assists (18) and game-winning goals (13) marks. Odorfer also holds the season records in points (28) and game-winning goals (5), while standing in third in the career points (70) and goals (26) charts.
In addition to her collegiate coaching career, Grose compiled an impressive playing resume. The St. Charles, Mo., native was a member of the 2002 Carolina Courage team which went from a last-place finish in 2001 to WUSA champions in Grose’s first season on the squad.
Before playing professionally, Grose racked up a notable set of accolades at Indiana University. In 1998, Grose was a first-team All-Big Ten selection, a member of the All-Great Lakes Region first team and set the still-standing IU single-season points (37) and goals (15) records. She led the Hoosiers to the second round of the NCAA championship, was an Academic All-Big Ten selection and became the first Indiana University women’s soccer player to garner All-America honors.
In 1995 Grose was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, while also being tabbed second-team all-conference.
While playing for JB Marine Soccer Club in St. Louis, Mo., Grose was a member of two national championship teams. Grose’s 1998 (under-23) and 1993 (under-16) squads were champions, while also taking third place in 1995 (under-18).
Preceding her playing career at Indiana University, Grose received first-team all-state, all-metro and all-conference high school honors. Her 1995 Francis Howell North High School squad was crowned state champions and Grose was selected to the Missouri North/South All-Star Game.
Grose received her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a sociology minor from Indiana University in 2000.
