COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Corby Jones passed for a career-high 213 yards, tossed two touchdowns and ran for two others in just over three quarters as Missouri regained the "Telephone Trophy" with a 45-21 victory over hapless Iowa State in a Big 12 conference matchup.
Jones, who entered the game ranked third in total offense in the Big 12 at 193.5 yards per game, scored on runs of nine and five yards five minutes apart in the second quarter to stake the Tigers to a 28-14 halftime lead. Jones completed 12-of-14 passes and rushed 16 times for 81 yards.
Jones needed just 3:23 to get Missouri (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) a 7-0 lead when he hit Eddie Brooks with a five-yard scoring play. Iowa State (0-5, 0-2) responded 52 seconds later on Jerome Heavens' six-yard scoring run.
Missouri regained the lead on Brock Olivo's nine-yard touchdown run with 85 seconds left in the first quarter. Olivo, who is Missouri's career rushing leader, ran 10 times for 52 yards.
Iowa State tied the game 2:25 into the second quarter when Darren Davis rushed from two yards out.
Jones extended the Tigers' lead to 35-14 when he hit Kent Layman with a 56-yard scoring strike 98 seconds into the second half.
Devin West added a one-yard plunge and Scott Knickman booted a 25-yard field goal for Missouri. Todd Bandhauer found Tyrone Watley with a 23-yard scoring pass for Iowa State.
Missouri has won four of the last five Telephone Trophy games from Iowa State and is 22-13-3 against the Cyclones since the origination of the game in 1959.
