AMES, Iowa (AP) - Josh Scobey and Ell Roberson each rushed for more than 100 yards and accounted for five touchdowns to lead Kansas State past Iowa State 42-3 Saturday.
Kansas State (4-4, 2-4 Big 12) dominated a game expected to be close by piling up 343 yards on the ground and shutting down one of the league's most productive offenses.
Iowa State (5-3, 3-3), averaging 414.6 yards, had only 86 through three quarters and finished with 174. It was the first time since a 28-3 loss to Kansas State in the final game of 1997 that Iowa State failed to score a touchdown.
Scobey carried 32 times for 172 yards and scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards to become Kansas State's career leader with 27 rushing touchdowns. The previous record was 26, by Jonathan Beasley and Eric Hickson.
Roberson ran 22 times for 131 yards and had touchdown runs of 2 and 5 yards. He also threw a 35-yard pass to Ricky Lloyd for the Wildcats' first touchdown. Lloyd caught the ball in full stride at the goal line after beating Harold Clewis.
It was the sixth time that two Kansas State players rushed for 100 yards in a game. Roberson and Scobey also did it against Southern Cal this year.
The only thing that gave Kansas State trouble was field-goal attempts. With Joe Rheem set to try a 22-yard kick, the snap sailed past holder Mike Ronsick and the ball rolled all the way to the Kansas State 46, a 49-yard loss.
Iowa State's Tony Yelk kicked a 31-yard field goal eight plays later to cut the lead to 7-3. Later, with Rheem lined up for a 31-yard attempt, Ronsick couldn't get the ball down and was tackled for a 13-yard loss.
Otherwise, the frustration was all on the Iowa State side. The Cyclones missed numerous tackles and got little from their two offensive stars, Ennis Haywood and Seneca Wallace.
Haywood, leading the Big 12 in rushing at 120.4 yards a game, managed only 6 yards on 10 carries. Wallace, forced into throwing short dump-off passes, was 12-for-19 for 129 yards had minus-4 yards on 12 carries.
