NORMAN, Okla. -- The Iowa State women's gymnastics team placed second in the fifth annual Big 12 Gymnastics Championship Saturday at Oklahoma, 197-050 (third-highest team score in school history). Nebraska placed first with a 197.650, Oklahoma landed third with 196.700 and Missouri finished fourth with 193.675. The Cyclones had three gymnasts earn Big 12 Championship titles.
Junior Shelly Kringen was named the Big 12 vault co-champion, tying for first place with Nebraska's Jessica Wertz (9.875). Kringen also became the Big 12 all-around champion with a first place score, 39.550. She was involved in a four-way tie for fourth on floor exercise with Nebraska's Libby Landgraf and A.J. Lamb and Oklahoma's Leticia Ishii (9.900). Kringen earned all-conference honors on the vault, floor exercise and all-around.
Iowa State had two other individual Big 12 Champions: juniors Sissy Huey and Stephanie Sweitzer. Huey was named Big 12 floor exercise champion for her 9.950 first-place performance. Huey also tied for second on the uneven bars with a 9.950, matching Nebraska gymnasts Tami Harris, Julie Houk, and Alecia Ingram. Huey placed second in the floor exercise with a 39.475. She earned all-conference honors on the uneven bars, the floor exercise and in the all-around.
Stephanie Sweitzer was involved in a three-way tie for first on the balance beam to become the Big 12 balance beam co-champion, tying her career-high 9.950. Joining her in first place was Nebraska's A.J. Lamb and Bree Dority. Sweitzer earned all-conference honors for her performance.
Lauren Goldberg earned all-conference honors on the vault, tying for fourth place with Nebraska's Ingram (9.800, career-high).
The No. 9 Cyclones await their regional placing and performance seed to be released next week and look to their seventh NCAA post-season appearance.
