Iowa State Volleyball Drops Match to Missouri

AMES, Iowa - Senior Renae Pruess had nine kills and junior Brittany Dalager added nine digs, but the Missouri Tigers defeated Iowa state, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 8-8 overall and 1-5 in Big 12 play. Shen Danru and Lisa Boyd led Missouri with 11 kills each. MU's record improved to 12-3 overall.

The Tigers dominated the match offensively and defensively, hitting .330 from the floor and collecting 45 digs. Missouri committed just 10 hitting errors on 97 attacks. The Cyclones were limited to 36 kills, and .074 hitting percentage.

ISU's Dalager and Katie Kruenegel drill seven kills each to help the Cyclones cause on the night. Dalager is slowly approaching the 800 career-kill plateau. With her seven kills against the Tigers, she now has 742 total kills. Kruenegel also added seven digs and hit a solid .278 from the floor.

"I thought Katie Kruenegel played very well," head coach Linda Crum said. "She did a lot of good things to help spark us when we needed it."

The two teams played pretty evenly in game one, with Iowa State having the slight offensive advantage with 13 kills to MU's nine. But the Cyclones were held to just -.018 hitting from the floor, while Missouri hit .100 from the floor. Missouri won game one, 30-21.

The Cyclones hit a solid .281 from the floor in game two, but Missouri hit a solid .419 and pounded 18 kills to ISU's 13. The Tigers took game two, 30-20, and went into the locker room with 2-0 lead in the match.

Game three was all Missouri and the Cyclones we held to .030 from the floor, while the Tigers hit .517 from the floor. ISU pounded 10 kills compared to Missouri's 15. Missouri won game three, 30-11, and the match, 3-0.

"I was very disappointed in the way we approached the match today," Crum said. "We didn't serve well and we didn't come in with the mentality we needed to win the match. At times, I thought we dug very well and competed well at times, especially in rally situations. But overall, I was disappointed."

Iowa State returns to the road to play Oklahoma on Wednesday, Oct. 8, with first serve at 7 p.m.
