AMES, Iowa - No. 24 Washington (7-2) got a combined 50 points from its three seniors to lead the Huskies to a 76-55 win over Iowa State (5-4) in Hilton Coliseum Sunday. Anne O'Neil had a season-high 20 points to lead the Cyclones.
"Washington is a very, very good team," ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. "They have great leadership from their three seniors."
The game started out close with two ties and two lead changes over the first four minutes. Iowa State's offense went scoreless for more than five minutes, while Washington took advantage with a 14-0 run that widened the gap to 28-13 with 7:21 left in the first half. The Huskies owned a 38-24 lead at the break.
UW failed to make a basket for over three minutes to start the second stanza, but ISU could get no closer than within seven points (38-31) at 16:44. The Huskies drained six of their 10 treys and sank 51.6 percent of their shots in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Washington got 18 points from center Andrea Lalum and 16 points each from sisters Giuliana and Gioconda Mendiola. The Huskies outrebounded Iowa State 35-33, including 14 offensive boards.
Iowa State's 55 points is the lowest offensive output at home this season and the second lowest for the year. The Cyclones are 0-3 when they score fewer than 60 points this season. Katie Robinette had four points and two rebounds in her first game as a Cyclone, playing nine minutes.
