AMES, Iowa - Iowa State saw its season end with a 65-59 loss to UNLV in the WNIT semifinals Sunday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum. Despite outshooting the Lady Rebels, the Cyclones sent UNLV to the free-throw line 27 times, while only taking eight charity shots of their own.
Senior Erica Junod led ISU with 15 points in her final game as a Cyclone, hitting 3-of-6 from behind the arc and adding seven rebounds. Freshmen Lyndsey Medders and Megan Ronhovde had 12 and 10 points, respectively for Iowa State. Junior all-Big 12 performer Anne O'Neil went scoreless for just the second time in her ISU career.
UNLV took over the lead at 11:19 in the first half, building the advantage to as much as seven (22-15) with 6:39 left. A Mary Fox 3-pointer sparked an ISU comeback that would narrow the lead to just one (28-27) at the break.
Iowa State regained the lead on a Ronhovde trey at 17:53 in the second half and would extend its lead to 47-37 with 12:13 left on the clock. UNLV knocked down four consecutive 3-pointers to pull within one with 8:49 remaining and the lead would change hands five more times before time expired.
The Lady Rebels shot 14-of-20 from the free-throw line in the second half alone, while Iowa State made just 4-of-8 charity shots in the game. UNLV outrebounded the Cyclones 45-36, but shot just 31.1 percent from the floor. Iowa State hit 48.1 percent of its second-half shots and 43.4 percent in the game.
UNLV had four players score in double figures, led by Sheena Moore's 17 points.
