NORMAN, Okla. -- The ninth-ranked Iowa State women's gymnastics team captured second place (196.00) for the second consecutive year at the Big 12 Championship, defeating No. 10 Oklahoma (195.50) and No. 24 Missouri (194.875), but placing behind No. 4 Nebraska (196.650), who claimed its seventh conference title.
ISU began the evening on bars, where it suffered a fall and posted a 48.6. After the first rotation, the Cyclones found themselves in fourth behind Oklahoma (48.15). With a 48.85 on beam in the second rotation, Iowa State remained in fourth.
ISU made a come back on floor, finishing with a team score of 49.2 and climbing to second after the third rotation. In the final rotation, the Cyclones notched their second-highest team vault score of the season (49.35) to secure their second-place finish.
Sophomore Janet Anson matched her season-high floor score to share the title with Husker Richelle Simpson (9.925). ISU juniors Laura-Kay Powell and Erin Dethloff tied Sooner Ashley Cooney and Tiger Whitney Criager (9.875) for fifth.
Powell and Dethloff finished third on beam (9.825), sharing the honor with Kristi Esposito of Nebraska. Iowa State's Ashley Alden posted a 9.80 to tie for sixth. Simpson and teammate Emily Parsons tied for the crown (9.85).
Anson, Powell and Dethloff placed in a five-way tie for second on vault with Parsons and Simpson (9.90). Missouri's Alisha Robinson was named vault champion (9.925).
Powell and Dethloff shared second place in all-around competition with a 39.325. The all-around champion was Simpson with a 39.525.
