AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State women's basketball team was tagged in the SportsPageMagazine.com's preseason top 25, marking the second such honor for the Cyclones this preseason. SportsPageMagazine.com also picked senior Lyndsey Medders as an honorable mention All-American.
The Cyclones were picked 23rd by the publication, matching their No. 23 ranking by Street & Smith's College Basketball Yearbook, a few weeks back.
Oklahoma was picked No. 4, while Baylor was chosen No. 13 to represent the Big 12. Texas A&M was picked at No. 17, and Texas came in at No. 20.
The Cyclones return three seniors to the 2006-07 squad, which finished 18-13 a season ago and made their ninth postseason appearance in the last 10 years.
Medders led the Cyclones a year ago with 16.5 points per game, and led the nation in assists with a 7.7 pg average. She was named to the All-Big 12 First Team last season, and earned third-team all-America honors from Women's Basketball News Service. She was also chosen as a preseason honorable mention pick by Street & Smith's College Basketball Yearbook.
Iowa State returns four of its five starters from a season ago and eight letterwinners remain from the 2005-06 season. Senior Megan Ronhovde averaged 9.5 points per game and ranked second on the squad with 7.3 rebounds a contest. Sophomore Heather Ezell and Nicky Wieben join Medders and Ronhovde from last season's starting rotation. The Cyclones added five newcomers during the offseason and will have the services of redshirt freshman Rachel Pierson.
