Cyclones Advance at NU Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - Iowa State's tennis team wrapped up their first day of competition at the Wildcat Invitational Friday. Seniors Danielle Uscinski and Eve Soriano won their singles matches Friday. Uscinski took down Illinois-Chicago's Ulrikke Von Ubisch, 6-2, 6-2, in the opening round of the second singles flight, while Soriano knocked off UIC's Jenna Reisch, 6-4, 6-3, after a first-round bye.

Junior Caitlin Loprinzi and sophomore Kara Hickey were also victorious in singles action. Hickey defeated Bowling Green's Ashley Jakupcin, 6-1, 6-2, in the first round, before falling in round two. Loprinzi took down Minnesota's Jackie Sperling, 6-2, 6-0, to advance to the third round of play. Freshman Dora Losonczy turned back Minnesota's Liz Tussler, before losing her second round match.

In doubles action, junior Chrissy Derouin paired up with freshman Alyssa Palen to capture an 8-4 victory over Minnesota's Liz Tussler and Karina Chiarelli. Meanwhile, the senior duo of Danielle Uscinski and Eve Soriano were also victorious in doubles play as they defeated Minnesota's Mikayla Rogers and Jackie Sperling.
