AMES, Iowa?Iowa State tied a school-record with 13 3-pointers, including 11 in the first half, en route to an 87-71 victory over Southeast Missouri State Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones finished the game going 13-of-25 from beyond the arc (52.0 percent), equaling the school mark with the 1987-88 Cyclones, who were 13-of-26 from 3-point range in a 78-76 loss vs. Butler on Dec. 28, 1987.

The Cyclones made 5-of-their-first-7 shots from downtown while opening up a 17-11 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the first period. Wesley Johnson and Mike Taylor each hit a pair of treys to jumpstart ISU. The Cyclones continued their hot shooting throughout the rest of the half, drilling 11 treys in the opening period, the record for most team 3-pointers in a half. Brock Jacobson and Wesley Johnson each hit three treys in the opening stanza to help the Cyclones take a commanding 51-27 lead at the break. It marked just the second time this season where ISU scored 50 points in a half (53 vs. Lake Superior State).

"If you have a rhythm and an open three-point shot, you take it," said Iowa State head coach Greg McDermott. "It seems as though if one person is hitting threes, then everyone starts hitting them. For the most part, I think we made a lot of good decisions today. We are encouraged by our unselfish play."

Iowa State increased its lead to as many as 28 points in the second period, but the Redhawks did not go down without a fight. SEMO slapped on a fullcourt press that gave the Cyclones fits, cutting the lead down to 13 points (79-66) with less than three minutes remaining.

Wesley Johnson ended the game with his sixth double of the season, tallying 17 points and a career-high 13 boards. Johnson, who was 4-for-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from downtown, recorded his fourth double-double in his last six games. Junior Corey McIntosh posted a career-high eight assists to help the Cyclones record a season-best 22 dimes. The Cyclones dominated the glass, owning a 35-24 advantage on the boards. ISU has outrebounded five of its last six opponents by a +7.5 margin. Taylor led all players with 18 points.

ISU is off until Dec. 31, playing host to North Dakota State at 1 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
