Sophomore Nicky Wieben led the Cyclones with 18 points and eight rebounds on the night, including six offensive boards. Senior All-America candidate Lyndsey Medders finished with 17 points and three assists in 23 minutes on the court, while junior Toccara Ross was just shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds. All 12 Cyclones played at least seven minutes and no one played more than Medders' 23.
“The bottom line was for us to blow some dust off our team,” head coach Bill Fennelly said referring to the week long layoff between games. “We have practiced them really hard for the last two days, but we have to play better.”
Both teams worked out their holiday kinks to begin the game as the teams were a combined 3-for-18 over the opening five minutes of the contest. After Colgate took a brief 5-3 lead, the Cyclones went on a 14-2 run, opening a 17-7 advantage.
The Raiders cut ISU's lead to six, 19-13, on a three-pointer by Katie Garman, but the Cyclones posted 16 straight points and held Colgate scoreless for five and a half minutes to go up 35-13. CU warmed up to narrow
In the second half,
Wieben turned in five blocked shots on the night to match her season high. She now has 21 on the season, ranking her in the top five for a single season by a sophomore.
The Cyclones will host the American Family Insurance Classic the next two days, with games starting at 5 p.m. each day at Hilton. On Friday, the tournament will open with a game between Colgate and Loyola Marymount at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup between
