COLUMBIA, Mo. - Costly turnovers and cold shooting spells were too much to overcome in Iowa State's 67-59 loss at Missouri Wednesday night. The Cyclones, led by Lyndsey Medders' 22 points, split the regular-season series with the Tigers.
Missouri (20-6, 10-4) ran out to a quick 12-2 lead with hot shooting from all over the floor. The Cyclones got two baskets from senior Brittany Wilkins before failing to score for more than five minutes. A rash of ISU turnovers and continued cold shooting woes allowed Missouri to pull ahead by as much as 15 twice late in the first half.
The Tigers, shooting with 45.5 percent accuracy in the first stanza, got 12 points from Christelle N'Garsanet. Medders hit three jumpers over the final 2:38 to narrow MU's lead to 32-21 at the break despite ISU's 13 turnovers.
Missouri came out of the locker room without losing its shooting touch, pulling ahead by as much as 14. Medders, who hit three triples to start the second half, and Wilkins combined to score 16 points over a five-minute span, pulling within six 46-40 with 10:32 on the clock.
Iowa State narrowed the gap to 48-46 on a traditional three-point play by Megan Ronhovde, followed by a Medders 3-pointer. N'Garsanet, who led MU with 22 points in the game, was sent to the bench at 8:22 after picking up her fourth foul. The Cyclones tied it up with a Lisa Bildeaux basket at 7:23.
Iowa State's shooting went cold, missing its next five shots, while Missouri went on an 11-0 run before Medders hit a layup at 3:29 to make the score 59-50. ISU used solid defense and rebounding to stop a pair of Tiger possessions and Nicky Wieben sank a 3-pointer to pull the Cyclones within four (59-55) with 1:37 left. Missouri drained all six free-throw tries to seal the victory.
