DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Jessica Quade went 2-for-3 with a RBI and Amie Ford tossed her third shutout of the season to help Iowa State defeat Bethune-Cookman, 3-0, and snap its four game losing streak in action at the Bethune-Cookman Tournament on Friday.
Quade's second inning leadoff single helped Iowa State (12-10) to a 1-0 lead when Whitney Perkins, who pinch ran for Quade, scored on a fielder's choice.
Quade struck again in the sixth, ripping a two-out double to right field to score Katie Reichling and extend the Cyclone lead to 3-0.
Ford (7-4) cruised to the win, allowing just two Bethune-Cookman (11-17) hits and striking out five batters en route to her seventh win of the season. Ford, who lowered her team-best ERA to 1.05, has now won six of the last seven games she has pitched.
Fallon Johnson collected a single in the fifth inning that scored Cary Akins and pushed the ISU lead to 2-0.
