Cyclone Tennis Sweeps Nebraska-Omaha

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's tennis team hit the courts for the second time this weekend, defeating Nebraska-Omaha 7-0 Saturday afternoon at Forker Courts. Cyclone seniors Elizabeth Chermel and Charlotte Ljungkrantz played the last home matches of their collegiate careers.
Capturing the fourth point and securing the win for the Cyclones was Ljungkrantz in the No. 5 singles spot. Ljungkrantz defeated Amy Pierson in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Chermel grabbed her first singles win of the season after beating Maggie Russell, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 slot.
"Beth and Charlotte have given so much to this institution," head coach Michele Conlon said. "I was glad they came out with their own singles wins and the team win as well. I know their teammates played for the seniors and I was proud of how the team played."
In doubles action, ISU picked up a team point after winning all three matches. Chermel paired up with freshman Kara Hickey to defeat Abby Wilson and Katie Schmidt, 8-3 in the No. 2 position. Sophomore Chrissy Derouin and junior Danielle Uscinski snatched the second doubles match at No. 3, winning 8-2 against UNO's Kylie Roe and Amy Pierson.
Iowa State finishes out regular-season action next Saturday at Nebraska. Match play will start at noon.
