CORVALLIS, Ore. - The fourth-ranked Iowa State gymnastics team arrived in Oregon last night, following flights from Des Moines to Chicago and from Chicago to Portland. After loading up in vans, the team drove to Salem, Ore., for dinner before arriving in Corvallis shortly after 9 p.m. PST.
The Cyclones had a great nights sleep and had breakfast in the hotel before driving over to Gill Coliseum on the campus of Oregon State University for today's practice session. In the only official workout session, Iowa State shared the competition floor with Arizona State, LSU and Nebraska.
The Cyclones began the session on bars, the same event they will begin with at the championships on Thursday. After bars, ISU moved to beam, floor and finished up on vault.
After some free time tonight, ISU will enjoy a wholesome meal at the hotel before having some fun in a team activity.
Iowa State is making its second-consecutive trip to the NCAA National Championships and will begin its title search on Thursday in the second session of the NCAA National Championships at 7 p.m. PST. ISU will be competing with Georgia, Florida, Arizona State, Oregon State and Arkansas in the second session.
The first session, which takes place on Thursday at 1 p.m., will pit Nebraska, Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama and Michigan together. The top three teams in each of the two sessions will advance to the prestigious "Super Six," on Friday. ISU is looking for its first-ever appearance at the Super Six.
