AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State women's basketball team played a game of two contrasting halves in a 101-38 win over Iowa Wesleyan in the Cyclones' only exhibition contest of the new season. ISU was red hot from beyond the arc in the first period, and then turned to the paint for its production in the final 20 minutes Sunday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum.
While the ISU offense was solid all game long shooting a blistering 64.4 percent from the floor, the Cyclone defense stepped up its pace in the second half, holding the Tigers to just 13 points in the final 20 minutes.

The Cyclones held Iowa Wesleyan scoreless for the first four and a half minutes of the game, while ISU opened the game going 4-of-7 from outside the arc for a 16-2 lead. The Cyclones' first three field goals came from long range, with Heather Ezell, Stuckey and Nicky Wieben each dropping in a three in the first three minutes.
The ISU defense forced the Tigers into 17 first-half turnovers, resulting in 24 points off turnovers for the Cyclones. Despite its miscues, Iowa Wesleyan made the most of its opportunities, shooting 71.4 percent from long range (5-7) and 42.1 percent from the floor (8-19) in the first period.
