Cyclones Fall To No. 17 Baylor, 7-2

LAFAYETTE, La. ? No. 17 Baylor used a five-run sixth inning to defeat Iowa State, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational. With the win, Baylor improves to 9-0 on the season while Iowa State drops to 2-7 with the loss.

Freshman Charissa Carlin (0-1) got the loss for the Cyclones in her first career start. She allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings.

Kirsten Shortridge (3-0) picked up the win for Baylor. Shortridge went the distance and allowing two runs on two hits, both of which came in the first inning.

Fallon Johnson and Alex Johnson were the lone Cyclones to record hits. Alex Johnson and Katie Reichling had RBI for ISU in the loss.

Ashley Monceaux led Baylor, going 2-for-2 with a homer, double and two RBI. Nicole Wesley and Chelsi Lake also had a pair of hits for the Bears.

Monceaux got things started for Baylor in the first, lifting a two-run homer off Carlin to stake the Bears to an early 2-0 lead.

The Cyclones rallied back in their half of the first, scoring two to even up the tally. Katie Reichling and Alex Johnson each drove in a run for Iowa State.

The game remained a pitcher's duel until the top of the sixth when Baylor scored five runs to open up the game and ensure it would remain undefeated. Brette Reagan homered to open the inning and Lake had a run scoring double to highlight the inning for the Bears.

The Cyclones will continue tournament play Sunday. Following completion of the round robin on Saturday, teams will be seeded. Updated information regarding the Cyclones' opponent and game time will be posted at Cyclones.com as it becomes available.
