BOULDER, Colo. - The Iowa State tennis team fell to Colorado, 7-0, on Saturday. The 47th-ranked Buffaloes handed the Cyclones their third conference loss of the season. Iowa State falls to 4-3 overall and 0-3 in conference, while Colorado improved to 5-2 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the Big 12.
A day after defeating Northern Colorado 4-3, the Cyclones were unable to capture a victory against the Buffaloes.
In doubles play the Cyclone duo of Kara Hickey and Eve Soriano were defeated for only the second time all year as they lost to CU's duo of Camila Belassi and Gleisy Torres Torres, 8-5. In the No. 2 doubles slot, ISU's pair of Jill Palen and Caitlin Loprinzi were defeated for only the third time this year as Colorado's Franziska Jendrian and Monica Milewski defeated the ISU duo, 8-3. In the No. 3 slot, Colorado's tandem of Melisa Esposito and Martina Sedivec defeated ISU's Chrissy Derouin and Alyssa Palen, 8-6.
In singles action, CU's Belassi squeaked by ISU's Hickey in three sets in the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. After dropping the first set, Hickey battled back strong and took the second set 6-4, but Belassi held on to win.
The Cyclones will return to action on March 2, as they play host to Kansas State at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center. Competition will begin at 4 p.m.
