SACRAMENTO, Calif. ? Ashley Killeen drove in three runs with a double in the tenth inning and Iowa State added two more as the Cyclones defeated Santa Clara, 8-4, to win its third extra inning game of the season Sunday at the Capital Classic.
Killeen's tenth inning double plated Katie Reichling, Courtney Wray and Alex Johnson as the Cyclones broke a 3-3 tie. The Cyclones scored two more insurance runs in the inning on Jennifer Bigbee and Amanda Bradberry's hits to make it 8-3.
Alyssa Ransom (4-6) held off the Broncos (6-28) over the final 1.2 innings to pick up the win in relief for the Cyclones (15-21), who have won seven of their last 10 games.
Killeen joined Bradberry and Wray as the only Cyclones to record two hits in the game. Four other Cyclones recorded hits in the game, including Kristen Karanzias, who added two stolen bases.
Iowa State got on the board in the third as Alex Johnson drew a walk and Bradberry scored on the passed ball to stake the Cyclones to a 1-0 lead.
The Broncos went out in front after scoring runs in the bottom of the third and sixth.
The Cyclones tied it up in the seventh and took the lead in the eighth on a pair of miscues by the Broncos. Wray scored on a throwing error by the Broncos and Reichling came home on a wild pitch in the eighth making it 3-2 in favor of Iowa State.
Santa Clara's Nori Kamada hit a one-out single to again tie the game and send it into the ninth inning.
Both teams were kept off the board in the ninth before Iowa State's offense got going in the tenth.
Santa Clara did score a run in its half of the 10th, but Ransom limited the damage by striking out the final three batters to pick up the win.
Charissa Carlin started the game for the Cyclones and equaled a career-high with seven strikeouts.
The Cyclones will conclude tournament play with a game against Cal Poly this afternoon.
