Women's Track and Field Heads West

AMES, Iowa- Four Iowa State distance runners from the women's track and field team will pack their bags and head out west for the Stanford Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, Calif.

Cyclone standout Jenny Mockler will kick off competition for Iowa State competing in the 1,500-meter run. The senior opened the outdoor season last week with a stellar performance in the 800-meter run, recording time of 2:09.02 qualifying her regionally for the NCAA championships.

Cross country All-American Lisa Koll makes her outdoor debut as a Cyclone this weekend. The Fort Dodge native will compete in the 5,000-meter run. Koll smoked the school's indoor record in the event with a time of 16:25.96 at the ISU Classic. Also competing for the Cyclone squad will be distance runners Paige Ties and Meredith McKean.

ISU throwers Amy Waggoner and Heather Gilliland are taking the shorter trip, south to the Missouri Relays. Waggoner will compete in both the shot put and the discus and Gilliland will throw the javelin.

The ISU sprinting crew is not competing this weekend. Results will be posted at the conclusion of each day's events.
