ISU Selected for NCAA Central Regional

INDIANAPOLIS- The 16^th-ranked Iowa State gymnastics team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Central Regional Championship April 14 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The meet, hosted by Alabama, will be held at Coleman Coliseum beginning at 6 p.m. CDT. ISU will be joined by the third-ranked Crimson Tide, 10th-ranked Oklahoma, No. 19 Michigan State, No. 21 Ohio State, and No. 26 Kentucky, the NCAA announced Monday.

The championship will mark the 13^th consecutive regional appearance for the Cyclones. Iowa State has advanced from regional competition to the NCAA Championship on three occasions, most recently in 2006, when the team advanced to the NCAA Super Six.

In addition to the 36 teams, five individual all-around competitors, who are not on a qualifying team, and one individual specialist per event were also named to compete in each of the six regions. Other hosting sites include Arizona (South Central), California (West), Denver (North Central), Michigan (Northeast) and West Virginia (Southeast).

The top two teams from each regional will qualify for the NCAA Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 26-28. The top all-around regional competitors, if not on an advancing team, will also qualify for the championship. In addition, each event winner who is not on an advancing team or a qualifying all-around competitor will earn a national championship appearance.
