Two More Regional Qualifers

Lewis' time of 20.83 in the 200-meter invitational, blew by the qualifying mark of 21.19. The junior led at the 100-meter mark and eventually finished fifth in the event. One of the top 200-meter runners in the world, Wallace Spearmon, running unattached for Nike, won the event with a time of 19.87.
“Jared Lewis ran a 20.83, which was absolutely smoking," Iowa State men's track coach Steve Lynn said. "It was a great experience for him to run like that."
Utterback added another regionally qualified athlete to ISU's growing list. The freshman threw a 49.97 (163-11) toss, beating the 47.30 regional qualifying mark. Utterback took third in the event.
Senior Neil Hines and the 4x400-meter relay squad have also qualified for postseason action this outdoor season. Hines set a personal best of 7,314 points in the decathlon at the Texas Relays earlier this season to surpass the NCAA Championships qualifying mark of 6,900 points.

The rest of the Cyclone team had a productive day, placing in several events and winning the 800-meter run at the John McDonnell Invitational and the shot put at the Dick Young Classic.

The Cyclone pair of David Lantz and Johnny Reel finished first and second respectively, in the 800-meter run. Reel ran a 1:54.01 effort, just a shade behind Lantz's 1:53.68.
