AUSTIN, Texas- The Iowa State men's track and field team continued action Friday in the Texas Relays against some of the best competition in the country. The Cyclones posted some respectable times and gained valuable experience for the rest of the outdoor season.
The sprinters for Iowa State, Jared Lewis in the 100-meter dash and Kellen Burl in 110-meter hurdles, both managed to finish in the upper half of their respective fields, but failed to qualify for the finals in each event. Lewis ran a 10.56 and Burl clocked a 14.54.
The race features some of the best 4x400 relay squads in the nation, including the Florida State group that finished runner-up to the Cyclones in the event at the Walt Disney World Invitational on March 24th. The same foursome will compete in the 4x200 relay at 12:35 p.m.
ISU got a big lift at the Texas Relays on Thursday when Neil Hines used a career best 7,314 points to earn second place in the decathlon. The score puts Hines in solid position for an NCAA Championships spot.
Events for the Cyclones at the Texas Relays start at 11 a.m. on Saturday when freshman Julian Morris partakes in high jump.
