ISU concluded the day with a strong performance in the 10,000-meter run, as Guor Majak placed third with a time of 30:39.21. Majak, a freshman, battled with two seniors, Kevin Chelimo from Texas Tech and Andrew Middleton from
“I did alright, I got top three which is what I was hoping for,” Majak said. “I just went into it seeing what was going to happen, and I did what I was supposed to do.”
Hines' first-day total of 3,837 points is only 169 behind leader Skyler Reising from
“The shot put kind of motivated me for the high jump,” said Hines. “I tied my personal best there, and that feels like it's been a long time coming as well as in the 400-meter dash.”
The Cyclones senior used those events to rebound and quickly move up in the standings, ensuring a battle for first place in the decathlon on Saturday. In the high jump, Hines equaled his career best of 6-08 1/4. The effort pushed Hines up to third overall. The team captain then finished his Friday with a stellar 400-meter race to move into second.
