Iowa State senior volleyball player Erin Boeve will be writing a weekly blog this season to give Cyclone fans an insiders look at the happenings of the program, which last year advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. Boeve, an outside hitter from Steen, Minn., became the first Cyclone to earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors a year ago. She also was the first ISU volleyballer to be named first-team All-Big 12 and the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. A preseason All-Big 12 selection this year, Boeve is the school's record holder for career block assists and owns the top-two single seasons in school history as well.

Hi! My name is Erin Boeve and I am a senior on the Iowa State Volleyball team. This year I will be writing a weekly blog to keep you updated as the season progresses for the Cyclones!
After a summer of lifting many weights and playing many games of volleyball, we were excited to get preseason started!! We officially reported on Wednesday, Aug. 8. We started off the day by receiving our equipment, right away in the morning. That is always an exciting time for us to see our new jerseys, practice shirts, spandex, shoes and everything else in between. Next on the agenda were team pictures, this year we took them outside of the Memorial Union on campus, so we will have to wait and see how those turn out! We got done with pictures just in time because it started to sprinkle. After a quick change out of our jerseys we had numerous meetings the rest of the afternoon. It wasn't the most exciting part of the day, but we all survived. We concluded the day with a team dinner and of course another team meeting to go over our schedules!
Thursday, Aug. 9 was our first official day of practice. We have practice in the morning from 9-11:30 a.m. and then in the afternoon from 2:30-5 p.m., with lunch in between! It is nice that we are able to eat together as a team for lunch and dinner everyday, plus we don't have to make anything for ourselves! It works out great!
So far practice has gone pretty well. I will admit it is a little different being one of the oldest ones on the team. We have big shoes to fill from the four seniors that graduated last year. We, the seniors, are learning how to become more effective leaders every practice we have. It is a different role for us but we are willing to take it on!
We have many goals this year as a team, and the biggest one includes making in further in the NCAA tournament! Last year we made it to the second round, which was an awesome experience but we are hungry for more! I think one of the most important things for us as a team is to work hard everyday and BELIEVE in ourselves. Look at the improvements we have had in the past couple years and it is only going to get better from here on out! I will keep you updated throughout the season!!
Go Cyclones!
