Football Practice Report 8-17-07

AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State's football team had a longer practice Friday as preparations began for Saturday's evening scrimmage. Head coach Gene Chizik said Wednesday that Saturday's practice could be the final scrimmage before the Aug. 30 season opener against Kent State. But, Chizik has also hinted there could be one more scrimmage before the start of the 2007 season. Players gathered to watch film in the Jacobson Building Friday after practice.

The team is slated for an evening scrimmage Saturday, preparing for game conditions under the lights in the Iowa State season opener. Sunday, Iowa State will host Fan Fest in the Bergstrom Athletic Training Facility from 1-3 p.m. The team will then practice later that afternoon. Monday is the first day of classes at Iowa State and will be a day off for Cyclone football players.

Practice Highlights

In 6-on-6, QB Austen Arnaud connected on deep passes with WR Jake Williams (23 yards, 56 yards) and WR Houston Jones (52 yards).
LB Micheal Bibbs picked of a pass and returned it for a touchdown in a 6-on-6 drill.
DB Chris Singleton made an interception in 6-on-6 work.
QB Bret Meyer completed a pass to WR Joel Zitek for a 41-yard gain in the same 6-on-6 drill.
In first-and-10 work, Meyer hit Todd Blythe on the first play of the series for a 42-yard gain.
LB Jon Banks recorded a sack and DB Steve Johnson made an interception in a first-and-10 series.
Meyer hit WR R.J. Sumrall for a 11-yard TD in red zone work.
