AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State concentrated on special teams work Sunday in its final practice before the fall semester begins Monday. ISU players will have Monday off before beginning specific preparations for Kent State, the Cyclones' season-opening opponent at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 in Jack Trice Stadium.
Iowa State secondary coach Shawn Raney says the entire defensive package is in.
“We went through every phase of special teams,” Raney said. “We did it in a deliberate manner addressing details. We've got pretty much our whole package in and now we will cut it down starting Tuesday to what will work for Kent State.”
Raney said the Cyclones have made great progress.
“(The coaching staff) will be working hard on Kent State Monday,” Raney said. “By Thursday we will really be into getting ready for the game. Football is football. It gets down to blocking and tackling. It really is not that complicated. We will give our kids a game plan and then watch them implement it.”
Iowa State will practice again Tuesday.
