“This is an amazing achievement, especially considering the dizzying pace at which is has been accomplished,” Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said.
One year ago, Pollard shared publicly a very bold vision for the Cyclones' fortunes going forward. One of the key goals was to build season ticket support for football to 35,000 by the year 2011.
“Meeting our mark four years ahead of pace,” Pollard said, “was way beyond our expectations. Essentially, more than 35,000 fans have built Cyclone football into their fall season itineraries.”
No one, however, predicted a 14% growth in ticket sales over last year's school-record total, nor a 56% boost (22,430 in 2004 to 35,076 this fall) in the last three years.
“Simply remarkable,” Pollard said.
Pollard noted that football ticket sales revenue is the single largest internally generated revenue source available, so strategies were implemented to market season tickets in the last year.
“People scoffed at the notion that we could build that type of support over a five-year period,” Pollard said. “The incredible buy-in of our loyal fans as well as the cultivation of new supporters has been sensational. On behalf of our entire staff, we humbly say ?thank you'.”
Pollard added that the ticket windows remain open, and if fans are waiting to the last minute to make their commitments it's probably time to visit the ticket office real soon.
