AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State volleyball squad prevailed in a five-game, two and a half hour marathon, 3-2 (27-30, 30-24, 30-26, 26-30, 16-14) against the Missouri Tigers on Saturday at Hilton Coliseum, in front of a crowd of 1,312.
With the match tied at two apiece, the Cyclones (9-5, 3-1 Big 12) came out firing in the final game, and appeared as if they would cruise to victory, but Missouri (7-6, 0-3) reeled off seven straight points to even the game at 14. A kill by Mary Bisenius, set by Kaylee Manns, regained the lead for ISU followed by Erin Boeve and Lauren Cummings combining for the game-winning block that secured the match.
The Cyclones started slow, faltering in the first set 30-27, but appeared to take control midway through the second game. Down 19-16, the Cyclones scored 14 of the final 19 points to nab the stanza 30-24.
ISU began to assert itself in the third set, taking control and winning 30-26. The Tigers refused to go away quietly though, despite several rallies by the Cyclones, and eventually triumphed in the fourth game 30-26.
