In a special holiday CYber CYd for the gymnastics team, head coach Jay Ronayne writes his monthly entry. Ronayne explains why the holiday break is something he welcomes, his eagerness to have his squad perform in front of the Cyclone fans and a Thanksgiving message. Next Thursday Jacquelyn Holmes will return for her latest entry.
Happy Thanksgiving!
We just came off of a pretty intense week of training, classes were pretty stressful for most of the team and a break from it all is quite welcome right now. Most of the team, coaches and athletic trainers are visiting with family and getting some much deserved rest and relaxation. It is hard to believe that we only have two weeks of classes left and then finals week. This semester has gone by so quickly. I suppose that is a good thing because when things are going well time flies by. It is only a short time now until our first meet of the year (Jan. 9 vs.
In one sense the team is ready to compete right now. We have routines that are ready to go and we have been training for a long time. Most of us are just itching to get out in front of a crowd and compete instead of just training everyday. But, in another sense, I'm glad we have the time to keep cleaning up the routines. We have some more work to get done before we can compete for the Big 12 championship.
I guess it is appropriate that today we stop and give thanks for all of the blessings that we have. I'll share a few of the things that I am giving thanks for:
I am thankful for the opportunity to help develop young student-athletes to become happy and successful adults. I am thankful that I get to work with a great group of people everyday. I am thankful that I get to do a job that I love and work every day with my wife. I am thankful that my team represents ISU in such a positive manner.
I hope that you also have a chance to reflect on the blessings in your life during this holiday time. Thanks for being a Cyclone fan and have a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Jay
