CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Iowa State scored five runs in the third to break open a scoreless game and defeat Akron, 6-3, and run its winning streak to seven games.
The Cyclones (10-1) got a bases clearing pinch-hit triple in the third from Courtney Wray, who finished 1-for-2 with three runs batted in. Ariel Coburn and Alex Johnson finished 2-for-3 for the Cyclones.
Charissa Carlin (5-0) got the win for the Cyclones, tossing 3.2 innings of one-hit ball in relief. Amie Ford was the starting pitcher and was relieved after 3.1 innings of work. Ford allowed two runs on four hits while striking out two.
Christina Swierz (1-2) took the loss for Akron, giving up six runs in four innings.
Lisa McLean finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Akron.
Iowa State will close out tournament play on Sunday morning with a game against Bowling Green. First pitch is scheduled for 8:45 a.m.
