AMES, Iowa - Iowa State's very best were in the Jacobson Building Wednesday. A contingent of Iowa State ROTC students from the Cyclone Battalion were greeted by ISU head coach Gene Chizik after football practice. The students were getting set for an annual tradition in which ROTC students from Iowa State and Iowa run a football from the visiting school to the site of the yearly showdown on the gridiron between the two schools. Chizik gave the ball to the Iowa State contingent, which will run the ball as far as Tama starting a 5 a.m. Friday. The game is at 11 a.m. Sept. 13 in Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
"It is an honor just to be with these young people," Chizik said. "I hold their values and commitment in the highest regard. Iowa State's ROTC program has been recognized recently as being the best in the country. I think that says it all."
