MURFREESBORO, Tenn. ? Iowa State hit .302 as a team and got a match-high 15 kills from Victoria Henson to defeat Appalachian State, 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 26-24), Saturday afternoon at the Blue Raider Bash.
The win was the 60th of ISU head coach Christy Johnson's career, making her the fastest coach in school history to reach that mark. Johnson reached 60 wins in match 102 of her career, surpassing Vicki Mealer, who did it in her 110th match.

Iowa State (4-2) had 10 blocks to hold Appalachian State (0-5) to a .047 hitting percentage for the match. The Cyclones also had 37 digs to just 28 for the Mountaineers. ISU also out aced the opponent, serving up seven compared to Appalachian State's one.
Henson was the only player in double-figures in the match while Rachel Williams and Jen Malcom finished with seven kills each. Malcom's seven kills came on 11 attacks with no errors. Malcom, who also had a solo block and five block assists in the match, is hitting .524 on the season.
Defensively, Ashley Mass reached double-digit digs for the 32nd consecutive match with 10. Mary Bisenius was second on the team with six digs in the contest.
In the first set, Iowa State trailed just briefly at 1-0 but quickly erased that and cruised to the 25-12 win behind a .417 hitting percentage. Henson led the way for the Cyclones in the frame, ripping four kills.
The second set was much of the same as ISU hit .364 while holding the Mountaineers to -.090. The Cyclones gained control with a 7-0 run midway thru the set that gave them a 19-9 advantage. Henson again had a big frame, getting six kills to lead the Cyclones.
Appalachian State didn't go down easy in the third set, pushing ISU to extra points before the Cyclones finished the sweep with a 26-24 win. ISU's hitting percentage came down to .200 in the set and the Cyclones were hurt by four service errors. Malcom and Henson had five kills each in the third stanza.
Carla Durham led Appalachian State with seven kills in the match while Cassie Engelgau had a team-high nine digs.
The Cyclones will close the tournament tonight at 5 p.m. with a match against Florida International.
