“It wasn't a great game besides the fact that Heather and Aus shot the ball well in the first half,” ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. “Nicky got her 1,000th point which is a great thing for her and certainly puts her in a very special club.”
Ezell finished with 19 points, all in the first half. Lacey recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. She was 5-of-7 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range. Amanda Nisleit and Ashley Arlen both finished with double digits as well, with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Alexis Yackley led the Cyclones with a career-high six assists.
The Cyclones finished with 10 three-pointers, the fourth time this season they have knocked down 10 or more. Iowa State shot 50 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range. ISU also outrebounded the Mastodons 38-29. Sarah Haluska led IPFW with 13 points and Courtney Reed also finished in double figures with 11 points. The Mastodons shot 38.6 percent from the field and hit nine three-pointers at a 36 percent clip.
The Cyclones led 44-24 at the break after draining seven first-half treys, including five by Ezell. IPFW got out to an 8-5 lead early, before Iowa State reeled off a 7-0 run for a 12-8 advantage. The Mastodons cut the margin to three, 15-12, before Ezell got hot and hit three consecutive triples and Lacey followed with a trey of her own to create a 15-point margin (27-12).
IPFW got scoring from four players as they made it a single-digit ISU lead (29-20). Nisleit drained a pair of free throws to spark a 15-2 run that included two more three-pointers by Ezell.
The Mastodons scored to open the second half, and the Cyclones answered with a 9-2 run, which was capped by five points from Yackley for a 53-29 lead. After another IPFW score, Iowa State scored nine more unanswered points to go up 65-34 with 13:15 to play. The Cyclones took their largest lead, 80-43, on a basket by Arlen with 5:36 to go.
