LAKEWOOD, Calif. ? Long Beach State had 14 hits and held off a late Iowa State rally to take a 6-5 win Friday afternoon at the Mayfair Tournament.
The Cyclones (13-4) dropped their second-straight game despite a five-run sixth inning that cut the 49ers lead to one run.

The 49ers added another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth on Danielle Linke's second homer of the season to push their lead to 6-0.
ISU didn't go quietly as Courtney Wray and Amanda Bradberry each had two-run singles in the sixth to cut into the lead. Sydni Jones also had a run-scoring single in the inning as the Cyclones made it 6-5.
After the Cyclones got out of a jam unharmed in the top of the seventh inning, Long Beach State pitcher Brooke Turner (5-3) sent the Cyclones down in order in the bottom half to earn the win. Turner allowed six hits while striking out five Cyclones in the game.
Charissa Carlin (6-2) got the loss for the Cyclones, giving up 13 hits in six innings of work.
Iowa State returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) when it faces Cal State-Northridge.
