Last Time Out
? The No. 22 Iowa State gymnastics team tallied its season-best score but could not overcome No. 10 Oklahoma's second-highest tally of its 2009 campaign. The Cyclones fell 196.800-195.525 at Hilton Coliseum, despite not having to count a fall.
Browning and Thompson: A Dynamic Floor Duo
? The tandem of freshman Michelle Browning and senior Jasmine Thompson has proven to be a high-scoring duo that closes out the Cyclone floor routine. Browning, who competes fifth on the floor for ISU, has scored no worse than 9.875 in four of her last five meets, with three of those scores being 9.900. Thompson, who competes sixth on the floor for the Cyclones, has not tallied worse than a 9.850 in her last five meets and scored a 9.900 on three of those occasions. Thompson is tied for 12th in the country on the event, while Browning has rapidly ascended up the rankings with her recent performances.
Nationally Ranked on Three Events
? The Cyclones stand among the nation's elite in three events. Iowa State is 24th on vault with a regional-qualifying score of 48.790, 14th on bars (48.870) and 16th on beam (48.750). The Cyclones entered the top 25 on vault this week for the first time this season.
Thompson Nationally Ranked
? Senior Jasmine Thompson is the 24th-ranked all-arounder in the country with a regional-qualifying score of 39.180. The McDonald, Ohio, native also stands in 12th in the floor exercise with a score of 9.875.
Beauty and the Beast, a Record-Breaking Night
? The Beauty and Beast meet on Feb. 20 drew a crowd of 7,224 that eclipsed the previous Cyclone attendance mark of 3,429 set Jan. 19, 2007 against Nebraska. The previous high also marked the Hilton Coliseum debut for ISU coach Jay Ronayne.
Top-25 Gauntlet
? The Cyclones have faced a schedule filled with top-25 squads. Iowa State has met No. 25 Iowa, No. 18 Minnesota, No. 16 Michigan, No. 13 Missouri, No. 12 Nebraska, No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 5 Auburn so far this season.
Injured Barnes
? Junior all-arounder Megan Barnes will be out of the Cyclone lineup for the foreseeable future. The team leader on vault (9.900) has been out the past three meets (at Iowa, vs. Minnesota and vs. Oklahoma).
Maccani Receives Big 12 Accolades
? Senior Ceilia Maccani won the balance beam title at Michigan with a career-high 9.850, while also scoring a season-best 9.750 on vault and a 9.750 on bars. The Racine, Wis. native's performance earned her a share of the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week with Oklahoma's Melanie Root. It marks the first time the ISU three-event specialist received a weekly Big 12 honor. The event specialist honor goes to the top non-all-around gymnast in the Big 12 each week.
12 Straight Regionals
? Iowa State will look to advance to its 13th consecutive regional competition in 2009. An inspired second-place showing at the 2008 Big 12 Championship, cemented the Cyclones' trip to the Northeast Regional meet at State College, Penn., last season.
ISU Ninth in Average Home Attendance in 2008
? ISU closed out last season with the ninth highest home average attendance at 2,590. The Cyclones' figure was tops in the Big 12 with Missouri closest at 11th (2,267).
Big 12 Nail Biter
? The Cyclones led the 2008 Big 12 Championships until the last competitor of the meet. Oklahoma's Kiara Redmond-Sturms' (the conference gymnast of the year) 9.950 vault gave the Sooners the title by .1 of a point over ISU.
A Closer Look At No. 12 Nebraska (7-3; 3-0)
? The Cornhuskers are coming off a 195.975-195.525 Saturday loss at No. 14 Michigan.
? Nebraska is nationally ranked on all four events. The Cornhuskers stand in a tie at No. 15 on vault with a qualifying score of 48.995, 20th on bars (48.770), 12th on beam (48.890) and 13th on floor (49.005).
