This week in CYber CYd sophomore Jacquelyn Holmes looks back on the past two ISU meets as well as glances ahead to Sunday's meet at Nebraska. Holmes also talks about new things the gymnasts are doing at practice to help them prepare for the end of their season.
CYber CYd with Jacquelyn Holmes
Hi Cyclone fans,
As you all may know, our Beauty and the Beast meet was a huge success! The gymnastics team would like to thank all the fans that came out to support us. I have never experienced performing in front of thousands of people like that and it just gave me chills hearing all the fans cheering. Our next meet was against Oklahoma. I was very pleased with our matchup against the Sooners. We took our confidence from our meet with Minnesota and ended up getting our highest total score of the season.
Since we are well into the season, competing feels like it has become a normal everyday thing. Everyone has gotten the butterflies out and seems to adapt well to competing. I know that we're going to do great at Nebraska this week because, as the weeks go by, we are getting better and better. It will be a pretty awesome matchup.
As for in the gym, we just started something to help us with our goals for practice and in meets. We are partnered up with a teammate and are the “leaders” for the week. This week we were responsible for coming up with a quote to put in the gym, make a practice CD to listen to, and lead warm-up all week. This was the first week and “Brownie” (Michelle) and I were up. Our quote, from Rudyard Kipling, was, “For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.” We chose that quote because we wanted the team to understand that we are only as strong as our weakest link. In order to accomplish great things, everyone must do their job, whether it?s performing well or cheering your heart out. It's really different leading the team because I'm so use to following the older girls, but it's great practice for what's to come in the next couple of years.
Wish us luck in Nebraska. I know we will make you Cyclone fans proud.
GO CYCLONES!
Jacquelyn
