AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State freshman Claire Rockall has decided to return to Ireland to continue her education and basketball career, ISU head coach Bill Fennelly announced Friday. Rockall will finish out the spring semester at ISU before going home.
“I've had a great experience here, but I've decided to continue my education and playing career in Ireland,” Rockall said. “It's been tough being away from my family and friends this year. I'm very thankful to everyone who has helped me here, but I feel like this is the right decision for me at this time.”
Rockall played 18 games for the Cyclones this season. She posted six points, 17 rebounds, six assists and five steals as a freshman. The Oranmore, Ireland, native was a late addition to Iowa State's roster and came to Ames at the start of the fall semester. She played on the Irish National U18 team for the last two years.
"Claire has decided to go home to Ireland,” Fennelly said. “I completely understand her decision and I support it. Claire was a great addition to our team and University this year and I appreciate her effort on and off the floor."
