AMES, Iowa- After a morning win over Cleveland State, the Iowa State tennis team returned to the court Thursday afternoon, posting a clean sweep of the South Dakota Coyotes, to put Iowa State at 9-6 on the season.
The Cyclones quickly picked up the doubles point, sweeping all three Coyotes' pairs. Maria Macedo and Tessa Lang defeated Kelsi Foster and Melanie Rockne, 8-0. Marie Christine Chartier and Reka Kelemen defeated Shadi Soleymani and Rijalda Zejnic , 8-2, while Chelsea Loprinzi and Ellie Nixon simultaneously defeated Marina Kiefer and Isabel Nunez, 8-2.
"We came out and took care of business," ISU head coach Armando Espinosa said. "I feel like we had a lot more energy than we did in the first match against Cleveland State."
In singles action, Lang swept South Dakota's Kiefer, 6-0, 6-0 while Liza Wischer quickly defeated Zejnic, 6-0, 6-0. Jenna Langhorst clinched the match for the Cyclones, defeating South Dakota's Rockne, 6-1, 6-0. Erin Karonis took the court against Soleymani, defeating her 6-2, 6-2 as Kelemen made quick work of Nunez, going 6-2, 6-0 in straight sets. In the No. 6 slot, Alyssa Palen made her singles debut for the season, defeating South Dakota's Foster 6-0, 6-0.
"It's good to get two more victories under our belts before we go back into the Big 12 Conference," Espinosa said. "On Monday, it will be time to get back to work in preperation for the Kansas schools next weekend."
Iowa State returns to action Friday, March 26, in Lawrence, Kan., where they will take on Kansas at 2 p.m. before heading to Kansas State March 28.
