CHICAGO—The Iowa State soccer team hit its first bump of the 2010 campaign with a 2-0 loss to Loyola-Chicago Friday evening at the Loyola Soccer Park.
The Cyclones fell behind for the first time this season when Loyola's Alex Brown scored with thirty seconds remaining in the first half. Loyola (2-5) doubled its lead just over one minute after halftime off a Kristin Papierski goal.
“We did not play well and got outworked for the first 45 minutes,” Iowa State head coach Wendy Dillinger said. “We got beat to every 50/50 ball, and we didn't step up defensively when we needed to. (Loyola) played hard and deserved to win.”
Iowa State (4-1-2) held a 15-14 shots advantage for the match and also had six corner kicks to the Ramblers' three.
Emily Goldstein led Iowa State with five shots and two being on target.
Maddie Jobe played the full 90 minutes at goalkeeper for the Cyclones and registered seven saves. Jobe's record dropped to 4-1-1.
Iowa State plays Illinois State in next match on Sunday. The game is set for 1 p.m. in Normal, Ill.
