OMAHA, Neb.—The Iowa State soccer team only needed one goal to push past Creighton 1-0 Friday night at Morrison Stadium, as the Cyclones stayed unbeaten for the 2010 campaign.
Freshman Caitlin Groboski converted a penalty kick with 4:22 remaining in the first half on what proved to be the match's lone goal. The goal was Graboski's first of her young collegiate career.
"Jennifer Dominguez beat their defender and was fouled to earn us the penalty," Iowa State head coach Wendy Dillinger said. "Caitlin Graboski stepped up and took a strong penalty."
Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Jobe went the distance for Iowa State (4-0-1) and registered seven saves. Jobe notched her first shutout of her young career and improved her record to 4-0. The Cyclones tallied their third shutout of the season and have only conceded two goals this campaign.
"We're having great defense all over the field," Dillinger said. "Maddie Jobe took a lot of shots today and made some great saves, especially on some one-on-one breakaways. But, our team defense has been exceptional and everyone is contributing."
Creighton (2-2-1) held a 17-15 shots advantage for the match. The Cyclones held a 4-2 edge on corner kicks for the match and an 8-7 shots-on-goal advantage.
The Cyclones make their next appearance Sunday at 1 p.m. with a match against North Dakota State. The match will be played in Omaha.
