RESULTSCOLUMBIA, Mo. - The Iowa State swimming and diving team fell to No 25. Missouri Saturday afternoon. The Cyclones collected three event wins but fell 200– 98, moving the team to 5-3 for the season and 0-1 in conference meets.
The Cyclones first win of the meet came from
Megan Thompson in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 10.34.76
“It was the first time she swam this event, and we knew she would do great,” Iowa State head coach
Duane Sorenson said. “We are very proud of how she swam and how she paced her splits.”
Jenny Vondenkamp stepped up for the Cyclones with a strong second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 5:02.70. Vondenkamp also had a third place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time 1:53.76.
The Iowa State 400 freestyle relay team of
Kalyn Amundsen,
Alex Gustafson, Vondenkamp and Brianna Carlberg ended the night with a win for the Cyclones, taking the race in 3:38.87.
The Iowa State diving team stood out in the diving well with three personal best dives.
Sarah Nelson placed fifth and finished 1-meter with a score of 272.70 after placing eighth with a score of 223.50 on the 3-meter springboard.
“I was very happy, it was her best score and I was very proud of how she rebound from the 3-meter,” Iowa State diving coach
Jeff Warrick said.
Redshirt freshman Jessica Nicholson stepped up on 3-meter, posting a personal-best of 272.93.
“She was very put together, and very consistent,” Warrick stated. “She hasn't passed her potential yet, but is doing great.”
More career bests continued on the 3-meter with senior
Justine Anders placing fifth and scoring 244.80.
“Mizzou is one of the best in the Big 12 and is a very deep team. Justine did great in stepping up,” Warrick said.
The Cyclones will be back in action Jan. 29 when they host Big 12 opponent Nebraska. Fans are encouraged to arrive by 12:45 p.m. for the senior day recognition ceremony.
